For this piece I decided to create an artistic interpretation for schizophrenia. For those of you who don't know, schizophrenia is a mental illness characterized by various experiences that seem out of touch with reality. One of the more commonly associated parts of this illness is auditory hallucinations. In this piece, I went for "putting a face to the voice" so to speak. I also decided to use India ink to create this piece, which is like black water color paint in a sense. I first started off with pencilled outline before going with a light shade of gray as if it was common watercolor paint. After that, it is simple as adding darker and darker layers as I go along. The final highlights and smaller areas were done with white gel pen and a regular pen. Overall, I feel like what I had in mind did make it to the final piece. However, I am not a fan of watercolor paint so I feel like that I could have done more contrast and value with a different medium. Despite this, I think I will do one more like this before trying my hand at some other medium for these pieces.
