For this piece I decided illustrate the fear of religion and went for a deity to really illustrate this. For this I decided to go for the Hindu goddess Kali, which is known as the goddess of destruction and death. She is said to be the destroyer of evil and the incarnation of Shiva, which is the creator and the destroyer. Aside from lore and stories, people with theophobia have an unconditional fear of religious iconography depicting a deity or sometimes the sight of religious servicemen and buildings can cause anxiety. For this piece I decide to go for purple as the main skin color with greys to help with shadows. I used various references from memory to decided on the various implements our goddess here would be using. Overall, this piece has some points I like and others I did not. Since I only had one purple, I felt that my overall choice of lights and darks was somewhat limited. Another thing I would have fixed would be the shading on some of the items she is carrying in her hand. The things I did find successful was the hair. I wanted a different look to the hair this time which is why I used pen and ink to create it instead of shades of grey or browns. Overall, I think this piece was successful but also allow me to self-critique on what I should work on in the next piece.
